Millions of people all over the world are trying to figure out the magic formula for weight loss, but like the secret ingredient in “Secret Ingredient Soup” in the movie Kung Fu Panda, the secret of weight loss is that there is no secret.

Weight loss comes when you combine regular exercise with good eating.  And good eating means ditching the junk and replacing it with appropriate foods, foods that will provide your body with the fuel it needs but not hundreds of extra calories per day.  However, for those who struggle to eat a balanced diet on a regular basis, there are lots of weight loss supplements on the market that provide small portions of balanced foods.

One of the key issues to deal with if you want to lose weight is your metabolism.  Your metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories, and although people like to blame a slow metabolism for their weight gain, it is actually quite easy to increase your metabolic rate.

The biggest influence on your metabolism is the exercise you do.  Whenever you exercise you will increase your metabolism, at least in the short term.  As you begin to work out your metabolism rises, and stays elevated throughout your workout.  When you stop exercising it gradually slows back to your normal rate.

However, the type of workout that you do will affect not just how fast your metabolism goes during exercise, but also how long it stays elevated afterwards – that’s right, it takes time to go back to normal, meaning that even after you finish a workout you are burning extra calories.

If you want to boost your metabolism, you have to perform high intensity workouts like interval training or strength training – these will boost the metabolism and keep it running high for several hours after your workout.  Combine this with a sensible eating plan and you will be able to watch your weight dropping, week after week.
